Doctor Who- Aliens and New Planets!
We have been creating some fantastic work during our Doctor Who topic. Below you will see some super writing- we have been creating new worlds for the Doctor to visit in his TARDIS and some terrifying new aliens!
We learnt all about the Ood, the Judoon, the Weeping Angels and the Cybermen. We can tell you all about them- ask a child in St. George's Class! We can also move and walk like each of these monsters- the children might even show you in the playground if you ask them nicely!
Remember to click the pictures to make them bigger and easier to read:

Story Competition
Last week I read the children the first chapter for a story. I challenged them to work in teams to plan, draft and write the next chapter. The first chapter was all about a magical hat that could take you to any place, real or fictional at any point in history or the future! This tied in perfectly with our Doctor Who topic and allowed the children to decide where the main character Phil and his enemy Big Bully Billy should go.
Below you will be able to read their second chapters for our class book. Please read each one carefully, then choose which is your favourite. Once you have chosen your favourite, use the voting box at the bottom to vote for your favourite. Children, remember you cannot vote for your own story chapter!
After the voting has closed for this chapter, we will start the process again and each group will write a third chapter. We will then put them on the blog to be voted on and the winner will go into the book.
The children came up with an excellent suggestion to make the competition fair: the winner of each chapter competition will not be in the vote for the next chapter. This will make sure that no groups end up having two chapters in a row in the book. Great idea, St. George's Class!
GROUP 1 - Chapter Two
Phil sprinted through the chocolate vaper, while Billy swam
through the Seven-Up fountain. What
should Phil do? Billy saw a speed boat- this was his chance! He jumped and
landed face first on the boat. Billy yelled, “Come back here you cheat!”
Suddenly Phil fell onto a Sherbet Lemon.
“Let me out!” Phil shouted through tears. Now it was his
turn, he jumped onto a chocky rock. There was Billy, he hadn’t seen him yet. He
pitched forward and ran. Billy saw. “Got you, you rat!” He started to run, he
jumped and landed in a Tea Canal…
GROUP 2 - Chapter Two
-Sweetland!” Then he bumped his head and everything went
black…
Phil landed with a bump. He was lying on a bed of candyfloss
that was sticking to his skin. He pulled it off and sat up. There was no light
so he felt his way to the door, pulled it open and stepped outside. It was
NOTHING like where he lived. He wondered where he was for a moment, then
remembered his wish. He was in Sweetland!
Time to go exploring! But wait! What was that? There was an
enormous poster on the wall beside him. It looked important, so he read it.
What?! Rumplestiltskin and Mario had kidnapped one of the Twelve Dancing
Princesses! He was going on a mission.
The forest was cold and gloomy, and Phil was hungry. He had
long since passed out the trees full of food. He decided to go to sleep, and
just as he was dozing off, there was a rumbling, and suddenly…

GROUP 3 - Chapter Two
So the hat took him to the Dinosaur Times and he flew
viciously through the air. He landed on a rock and saw dinosaurs and scattered
fossils. He felt scared because he had never seen real fossils in his life.
He ran really fast and he ran up a hill, but it was actually
a massive dinosaur. Then the dinosaur turned around and Phil skidded down its
back and landed in the squelchy mud. Phil said, “I should not have gone to the
dinosaur times!”
Phil was trying to go back in the hat. After a while, he
could feel something was going to happen. He imagined Big Bully Billy was going
to come. It was just like a nightmare for Phil. He opened his eyes and saw a
hat. The hat looked just like the hat that had brought him to the dinosaur
times.
But it was Big Bully Billy who had tricked Phil. Phil was
running and running until he jumped onto a dinosaur and…

GROUP 4 - Chapter Two
“I know! The Great Wall of China! No, no, the Mediterranean-
wait I have got it- Transylvania with the Toy Story crew.”
Woooshhhh!
Big Bully Billy gets into disguise as Phil and tell the Hat
of Transportation to come and take him to Transylvania.
When Big Bully Billy get there and he is standing next to
Phil and finds himself opposite Dracula. Next to Dracula is his daughter and
Billy falls in love with her, to be his girlfriend. She says, “I am Phil’s
girlfriend.”
Billy finds Phil and tries to hurt him and Dracula is in his
way so he beats him up, and then Toy Story burst into the room. Then Jessie
says, “You! What are you doing to my friend?” They start a war.
Big Bully Billy and Zourg on one side and the rest on the
other side, the battle began and…

GROUP 5 - Chapter Two
“I want to go somewhere fun and exciting! What about the
Amazon Jungle?”
The cap says, “As you wish.” A puff of smoke and we’re off.
“I wonder what animals I could meet there?”
Suddenly, a monkey appeared as brown as a bear. I stood
there for three minutes while the monkey imitated me. I turn around and realise
there’s a whole family.
They start to run away and I question myself, “What are they
running away from?” I feel a creature rush past my foot. I look down, “Nothing
there apart from a snake… A SNAKE!”
Now I feel scared, I start running for my life. Trees pass
me like a blur. Suddenly something appears and…

Invitations to the Jungle Dance!
We loved reading 'Giraffes Can't Dance'. We used ICT to create some invitations to the Jungle Dance. Can you spot some excellent flattery and persuasive language? Have all of the invitations included the essential information for the dance?
Friendship Week- Giraffes!
This week we celebrated Friendship Week in school. Every class in the school read the fantastic 'Giraffes Can't Dance' and used it to do lots of activities. On Friday, we watched a wonderful class assembly by St. Patrick's Class in which they performed the story with some outstanding dance moves!
All week, all of the classes in the school have worked closely with their year group partner class to make a beautiful Gerald the Giraffe. We all used our teamwork skills and cooperation to make a shared piece of artwork.
Here is our wonderful Gerald the Giraffe, created by the children in Year 4 and made from all of the juice boxes that were kindly donated!
Here are the other amazing giraffes from all of the year groups in the school, plus the After School Club. Click the pictures to make them larger:

Happy Birthday St. Anthony's!
This week we celebrated the 130th birthday of our school! We had a lovely day yesterday- we all sang 'Happy Birthday' to the school and there was a HUGE cake with lots of candles in assembly. After eating the delicious cake with our lunch, we had a very fun birthday party in the afternoon. Happy Birthday St. Anthony's!

Doctor Who Adventures!
This week we were challenged to create a new planet for the Doctor to visit in the TARDIS. We had to think about the landscape, the creatures, the food, the sky, the weather... all aspects of a new planet!
We wrote some fantastic descriptions of the new planets (I will put some on the blog over the weekend). Then we worked in groups to create these spectacular maps of our planets on large pieces of paper, to show the Doctor what was there and where to go.
We used inks to make these beautiful maps:

World War One
Today we were very lucky to have a visit from Mr. Owens. He told us all about 'The Great War', as part of our Remembrance topic. It was very interesting and we all learned lots about the war and about how it is remembered.

A Fantastic Trip!
Today we had a wonderful day at Dulwich Picture Gallery. This morning we looked around the gallery and saw how people and events are remembered through art.
In the afternoon, we had a very exciting art workshop. We used acrylic paints to do some marbling, then learnt how to use origami to create beautiful remembrance poppies.
Here are some pictures of our day:
Our teacher, Ben:

Finally, we went on a parade around the gallery to show off our beautiful remembrance poppies:
