A Very Busy Week!

Wow! What a week we have had!

Yesterday, we held our very successful Fairtrade Snack Sale. We have been cooking all week to prepare for the sale- planning, costing and cooking lots of recipes using Fairtrade ingredients.

We sold smoothies and hot chocolate to accompany our banana loaf, flapjacks, fairy cakes, Florentines, chocolate covered marshmallows, fruit kebabs, pizza with pineapple and many other treats!

The aim of our sale was to raise awareness of the importance of Fairtrade, as well as raising money for Oxfam's Fairtrade projects.

We can now announce that we raised a fabulous £95.70 profit, in just half an hour- a real achievement! Well done!

 

Our visitors also voted for our Snack Attack products- we will be announcing which team has won the school heat next week.

This week we finished our TV adverts, produced our magazine/poster adverts and made radio advertisements with jingles and catch phrases. Finally, we wrote our reports about what we had learned- the most important requirement of the competition. Good luck everyone!

On Thursday, we had a fun day- Miss May organised a super Science Day, with a helicopter competition. DANIELLA in St. Clare's won for UKS2! Well done, Daniella!

On Friday, we also enjoyed a play on the theme of 'Mercy' by the Ten Ten Theatre Company. They performed different plays all day for each phase group in the school, because we are celebrating the 'Year of Mercy' this year.

On Wednesday, we loved watching 'Amazing Love'; the Middle School Easter Play. It was wonderful!

Next week, we will be performing our Easter Liturgy on Wednesday at church. Remember, you must bring in your costume on Monday. Also, Madame Severine needs you to bring in your letter to your French penpal on Monday.

Bread of Life Cafe!

Yesterday, we had a fantastic trip to the Bread of Life Cafe. As we have been learning about Fairtrade this half term, we were keen to visit Mary again, as we know that she is a Fairtrade expert! Mary- and her husband John- told us all about running a Fairtrade shop and cafe.

We found out about where many of their products come from and why they choose to work for Fairtrade. Mary and John answered lots of our questions and we were able to see their shop and all of their products for sale.

Mary also reminded us that it had recently been Fairtrade Fortnight, with the theme of 'The Big Fairtrade Breakfast'. We designed our own breakfasts using Fairtrade ingredients.

We used lots of what we learned today when we ran our own Fairtrade Cafe to raise money for Oxfam's Fairtrade work. Thank you Mary and John! Make sure you go and visit the shop and cafe at the Bread of Life Centre in East Dulwich- they do great work to support farmers and producers around the world by selling food, gifts and cards.

Snack Attack!

As part of our Fairtrade project, Year 5 are doing our bit to change the world! This week, we all wrote letters to David Cameron to try to persuade him to pass a law commanding all supermarkets to sell use Fairtrade ingredients for their own brand products and for other products, wherever possible. Year 5 are also planning and preparing for our Fairtrade Snack Sale. It will be held next Friday at 3:30pm in the Small Hall- please come along and help us support Oxfam's Fairtrade work!

This half term, we are also competing against each other in the Snack Attack challenge! Everyone in Year 5 is working with a team to create a new and original Fairtrade snack. As a school, we will be submitting ONE entry to the national competition- so each team are competing to win the first heat at school. The snack must include Fairtrade ingredients and must appeal to customers. We need to think of an original name for the product; design the packaging; create a logo and produce video, radio and print advertisements.

Wear it PINK day!

 Today, St. Anthony's went pink! Everyone came into school wearing something pink to raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer Care. Every member of St. Clare's brought in a donation of at least a penny. We looked absolutely marvellous today- here are some pictures of us having lots of fun in pink today- you can't see our faces, but you can see our fab outfits, wigs and accessories!

 

Harvest Festival

On Thursday at 2:30pm we will be celebrating our Harvest Festival Service at school.  Each class will be presenting a box of donations. We will be collecting for the Manna Day Centre again this year which offers help to around 150  homeless and needy people every day, providing breakfast, lunch, shower facilities and housing advice.  

If you are able to do so, please bring in a donation of:

sugar, tinned vegetables, deodorant, 

powdered milk, breakfast cereals, soap,
tinned tomatoes, squash, shaving foam,
rice, coffee or shampoo 

We do not yet have many donations from St. Clare's Class. Let's show that we want to help- remember:

Cafe Marvellous, Part Two!

Well done to everyone in St. George's Class- today was another brilliant day at Cafe Marvellous! We had lots of special guests, including some of your parents and Mary from the Bread of Life Cafe. Thank you to everyone who has visited the cafe this week- we are very grateful!
