Habitats

St. George's Class have been working hard with Mrs Herrera to learn all about habitats, particularly in the UK. This week, you even held a debate and had to imagine that Southwark Council had decided that they were going to close Dulwich Park to build a road. Mrs Herrera was very impressed with how you were able to discuss your ideas and think about the animals that might be affected by losing their habitats.

You also made these wonderful habitat models, using folded paper and plasticine. Can you leave a comment to tell us about your model?

Our Myst Creatures and Their Habitats!

This week we combined our Myst adventure with our learning about habitats in science. We looked at the different habitats that we could see in the Myst settings. Once we had identified the habitats, we used our imaginations to create some creatures that might live there. We thought about what a creature that lived in each habitat might eat, look like and need to survive.

Here is a selection of some of our creatures- hope you're feeling brave, as some are a little scary!

Shoebox Habitat Science Project

Science Project

Our science topic this half term is ‘Habitats’. This homework project will help you to learn about one habitat in detail.

You need to make a shoebox habitat. We hope that you will put lots of effort into this project and use your creativity!

First choose one of these habitats (it may only be from these choices):

·         Forest

·         Sea

·         Polar

·         Rainforest

·         Desert

1.     Decorate the inside of the shoebox to look like your habitat.  For example a forest habitat may have trees and leaves.

2.     Then add 3D animals (models or pictures either printed or drawn) and plants.

3.     You must include at least 2 animals from your habitat and at least 2 plants that live in your habitat. Label the items in your habitat.

4.     The box should not be bigger than an adult sized shoebox.

5.     Label the items in your habitat.

6.     On the back of the shoebox,  attach a piece of paper with your name, the name of the habitat, where in the world you would find your habitat and what types of animals and plants you would find there.

This project will be your homework for the next 3 weeks.

It is due on TUESDAY 4th DECEMBER.

We will be running a club on Friday lunchtime for the next 3 weeks if any children would like some extra help with their shoebox habitat.
Remember to turn the shoebox on its side before you start! See below:
