Our Friendship Sculptures

Here are some lovely examples of our completed Friendship Week sculptures. We each used newspaper and modrock to create little models of ourselves in various poses. Once they had dried, we wrote kind messages of friendship on the models of the friends in our class. Now we each have a model covered in lovely words about ourselves- to remind us of how marvellous our friends think we are!

Friendship Week Art Project

As part of Friendship Week, everyone in Upper School is contributing to a big art project. Each of us is going to make a little sculpture of ourselves, using newspaper and mod rock. Then, at the end of Friendship Week, we will each write kind and positive messages about each other on our little people!

Friday's P4C session was fantastic! This week is Friendship Week at school, so every class in the school will be using the wonderful 'Something Else' as a stimulus for Philosophy.

We started early, on Friday afternoon, to give us more time to hold our enquiry.

The questions that were suggested by the groups were:

1. Is it rude to say 'No!'?
2. Why are some people envious of others?
3. Are we all the same in some way?
4. Why is everyone different?

After editing the questions and looking for assumptions, we held a vote to decide which question to discuss. The winning question was:

'Is it rude to say 'No!'?'

We had a great discussion. Most people seemed to agree that sometimes it can be rude to say no, but it depends how you say it. We talked about 'white lies' and when it might be ok to lie to protect someone's feelings. We also talked about when it might be important, or even essential, to say no.

Next week in school we will be celebrating our annual Friendship Week!


On Friday, the whole school will be participating in a special assembly to think about friendship at St. Anthony's.

Upper School will be performing a rendition of a famous song called 'Lean on Me' by Bill Withers. Your homework this week is to make sure that you have learned the lyrics to the song, ready to start rehearsing on Monday. You have a copy of the lyrics to bring home with you today, which is marked to show the sections you particularly need to know.

If you would like to hear the song to help you to learn the tune, you can find many videos (some with kareoke lyrics!) on Youtube; simply search Bill Withers 'Lean on Me'. Ask an adult at home to help you find the video, then perhaps you could perform your song to them! Have fun!

Invitations to the Jungle Dance!

We loved reading 'Giraffes Can't Dance'. We used ICT to create some invitations to the Jungle Dance. Can you spot some excellent flattery and persuasive language? Have all of the invitations included the essential information for the dance?

Friendship Week- Giraffes!

This week we celebrated Friendship Week in school. Every class in the school read the fantastic 'Giraffes Can't Dance' and used it to do lots of activities. On Friday, we watched a wonderful class assembly by St. Patrick's Class in which they performed the story with some outstanding dance moves!

All week, all of the classes in the school have worked closely with their year group partner class to make a beautiful Gerald the Giraffe. We all used our teamwork skills and cooperation to make a shared piece of artwork.

Here is our wonderful Gerald the Giraffe, created by the children in Year 4 and made from all of the juice boxes that were kindly donated!

Friendship Week Art Project

Our Friendship Week theme was an 'Ocean of Friendship' and we used 'The Rainbow Fish' as our focus book.

The whole of Middle School worked together to make a collaborative Rainbow Fish. Every child made a scale, using different fabrics, sequins and beads. We then put them all together to make this beautiful fish!

To accompany our fish, we worked in small groups and made these sea scapes using different types and textures of paper:

As promised... here is the Kenning we wrote and recorded as a class for Friendship Week.

The title of our Kenning is 'Friend'. We used the microphone to record our lines and put them together to create this super poem.

Kennings

Last week, as part of Friendship Week, St. George's class wrote a class Kenning poem about what a friend is. * COMING SOON to the blog as a new podcast! *

A Kenning is an interesting form of poetry that uses only 2 words on each line, with the second word ending in -er. It gives you lots of clues about the subject of the poem, by telling you what it does, or likes or looks like, but it doesn't tell you what the poem is actually about.

Friendship Week!

This week at school is Friendship Week!

All week we will be using the lovely book 'The Rainbow Fish' by Marcus Pfister to explore ideas around friendship.

So far this week we have made some beautiful Rainbow Fish biscuits with Mr. Croft and Mrs Cook. Take a look! Yummy!
