Welcome to St. Clare's Class 2016-17!

We are all so pleased to have you with us. Here's some important information:

On Monday and Tuesday, Mrs Hopkins will teach St. Clare's, with Mrs Cook.

On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Mrs Parrott will teach St. Clare's with Mrs Cook or Mrs Brand.

You will go swimming on Monday morning, leaving school at 10:30am. We will need parents or carers to help us every week, otherwise we won't be able to go. Please do sign up on our list which will be outside the classroom door at the bottom of the stairs, or find Mrs Cook in the playground when she has her swimming clipboard!

P.E. will be every Thursday afternoon. Please bring your P.E. kit in on a Monday and leave it in school all week, in case we need it for any unexpected fun events! You can then take it home on a Friday to be washed and ready for the following week.

Homework is likely to be going out on a Friday, to be returned on Tuesday or Wednesday, but we will let you know the precise details as soon as they are confirmed.

Welcome to St. Clare's!

 
We have had a wonderful first week in St. Clare's Class! We are settling into our new room in Upper School and have enjoyed welcoming Finn back to St. Anthony's.

It has been a busy week; we tried the tiny glass tower challenge, wrote about where our 'Mystery Ticket' might take us, created beautiful imagination portraits, danced and sung with Bassistry, completed lots of Minecraft maths challenges, written letters to our future selves and started our CD weaving projects.... WOW! There will be lots of photos of these activities on the blog next week.

 We have another exciting week ahead next week, as we start our Inventors and Inventions topic!

Remember that you will need to bring in your swimming kit and P.E. kit on Monday.

Homework:
Homework will begin next week. Make sure you are reading for 20 minutes each day- we have lots of new books in our book corner, you are welcome to borrow as many as you like!

Reading Response: Reading activities are handed out on a Monday and are due in on Wednesday. You will complete the activity in your Reading Response book.

Maths: Maths homework will be handed out every Wednesday and is due in on Friday. This will be on paper and will go into your Homework Folder, which we will keep in school.

Topic, Spellings and Grammar: These are handed out on Friday and are due in on Tuesday. They will be on paper and will also go into your Homework Folder at school. Spellings will be tested on Tuesdays.

A Look Around Our Classroom This Week

This week in St. George's Class, we are continuing our One World focus on Togo. Here is a quick tour of some of the new work on display in our room.

Our One World Pledges- what will we do to protect our planet and all of those who live on it?

Next Week...

Monday 15^th: Children will be going swimming as usual. Please bring in a large carrier bag today, as you will be taking lots of things home this week. Today we will welcome Mrs Herrera back to school and into St. George's Class! Hooray!

Tuesday 16^th: Christmas Lunch.

Wednesday 17^th: Class Christmas parties (please see the bookshelf inside our classroom door for the sign-up sheet should you wish to bring in an item of food or drink for the party).

Thursday 18^th: Carol Service at St. Thomas More, at 2pm.

Friday 19^th: ACE Awards Assembly at 9am, followed by ‘Toy Day’ in class. You  are welcome to bring in a small, non-valuable toy that is not electric or battery operated. Soft toys, cards or board games are great ideas! 

School will close at 2pm for the Christmas holidays.

Shh! Some Special Guests...

This week in St. George's Class, we will be welcoming some new guests! They are very small, very cute and only like to be in calm, quiet classrooms. I hope you will all be able to make them feel very welcome, by keeping our classroom calm and peaceful.

A Busy First Week!

We have had a very busy first week in St. George’s Class. We have played some team building games, shown off our writing and maths skills and made some beautiful artwork.

It was important to start our year together by deciding how we would like our classroom to work. We had some discussions about what makes a successful classroom and we all added our ideas to these post-it note posters. Click on the pictures to make them larger and easier to read.

We used these ideas to help us write our class rules. We discussed what we want our classroom to look and feel like and these were the rules we chose:

• Always be kind.
• Try your best.
• Listen to everyone.
• Be happy!
• Keep our classroom clean and tidy, so that it is safe.
• Respect everyone and remember your manners.
• Stay seated during lessons and put your hand up if you wish to speak.
• Respect the school and children's property.

This week we also discussed what we each hoped to achieve this year. We chose some targets for ourselves, then made these beautiful hands to ‘Reach for the Stars’ in our class!

 

 

Mrs Parrott loves Art, so we started the year with some shared artwork, to show that we can make wonderful things when we work together. Take a look at our fantastic circle mural:

Welcome to St. George's Class!

Welcome to St. George's Class! It was wonderful to see you all after the long summer holiday and welcome you to your new class. We were delighted to meet Ace and Daniella who have joined St. Anthony's this week- we're so pleased to have you in our class!

In St. George's Class you will be taught by Mr. Croft on Monday and Tuesday, then by me (Mrs Parrott) on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We are lucky to have Mrs Cook in class with us every day.

On Monday you will need to bring in your swimming kit. You will be having PE on Thursdays, but it is useful to bring your PE kit in on a Monday and take it home on a Friday to be washed, just in case we have an extra PE session during the week.

This week we were very pleased to welcome a new young lady to our class!

We all felt very lucky to have Aisling join us and we were delighted that she could come with us to Cubana Restaurant on Thursday. She has settled in well and we know she will be another valuable member of St. George's Class.

Welcome back to a new school year!

We've had a very busy day today- I hope you all enjoyed yourselves! It was wonderful to meet the new St. George's Class and get to know each other. Today we were lucky to meet our new classmate Roderick and our new Teaching Assistant Miss Jordis.

Our teachers are:

Mr. Croft on Monday and Tuesday.

Miss Benn on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Mrs Cook is our teaching assistant and she is here every day.

Miss Jordis is our teaching assistant and she is here every day.

 

The important information you need to remember each week is:

Swimming is on Monday morning- remember to bring in your towel, a swimming hat (available to buy from the school office or bring your own), a dark-coloured one piece swimming costume for girls, or trunks for boys. You may bring goggles if you want to and you need to bring a healthy snack, such as a piece of fruit, for after swimming.

P.E. is on Wednesday. It is best to bring your P.E. kit in on a Monday and take it home to be washed on a Friday.

Homework is handed out on Thursday and needs to be handed in by the following Tuesday.

Spellings and times tables will be tested on Thursdays.

A New School Year

I hope you are all enjoying your last week of the summer holidays! I'm looking forward to hearing all about what you have been up to.

As we get closer to the start of the new school year, it is time to start thinking about getting ready. You might have already got new school shoes or perhaps a new pencil case, but it's also time to think about what else you can do to be ready.


Have a think about these questions:

What are you looking forward to this year?

Is there anything you are worried about? What could you do to feel less worried?

What do you hope to achieve this year? How will you achieve it?

What might you need to improve on this year? Have you got a target you would like to meet? Perhaps learning all of your times tables, getting full marks in every spelling test, joining a new club or learning to swim a length of the pool?

These are all great things to think about before coming back to school next week. Perhaps you could talk about these questions with an adult or older brother or sister. Could they help you to achieve your goals this year?

Believe in Yourself! ASSEMBLY

On Friday (28th) at 9am, St. George's Class will be performing their final class assembly! Please do come along and watch!

The theme of our assembly is 'Believe in Yourself'. We will be singing a song called 'Believe in Yourself' from Sesame Street. I have found a few videos of some famous singers performing this song- which one do you prefer? Remember to practise the song at home so it's perfect for next week.

Show your parents- they will recognise these singers!

This one doesn't have an interesting video, but you can hear the version of the song that we will be using:

Remember to bring in your costumes for the assembly on Wednesday (remember to read your letter carefully). Go over your lines and your song this weekend!

We have made some new friends! This week we will be sending emails to our new penpals in Room 1 at Henderson North School in Auckland, New Zealand.

We hope that we will learn more about going to school in New Zealand and that we can teach our new friends about life in London. We were interested to hear that the children in Room 1 get to learn Maori language.
