WORLD BOOK DAY- Tomorrow!

Tomorrow is WORLD BOOK DAY! Remember to come in costume (with a suggested donation of £1 for Book Aid International) and bring in your book for the Book Swap!

Every morning before school this week (from 8:30- 8:50am) we will be setting up the hall for you to come in and read with your dad (or brother, uncle, grandfather, or mum!) You can bring in your favourite book, or there will be some books and magazines available for you to read. There will be lots of comfy cushions and chairs for you to settle in and read together!

TOMORROW, you can come into school dressed as a character from a book. Everyone at school (including the adults!) will be in costume. It will be a fun day with a special assembly, so we can all see your fabulous costumes! We have suggested that you could donate £1 to a wonderful charity called 'Book Aid International'.

Remember to bring in a book from home that you have read and are finished with. Don't buy a new book, just bring in an old one. We will then put them in our special box and swap them, so you will get to take home a different book, to keep! If you don't have a book at home that you can bring in, come and talk to us about it- we have lots spare!

New Year, New Books!

To welcome us back to school this week, we revealed a fantastic selection of new books! Everyone was very excited!

This week, Mrs Parrott and Mrs Cook have been selecting children who have been working exceptionally hard, or those who are being particularly kind or well-behaved, to have the opportunity to choose a book.

This fabulous book is for all ages; it’s humorous and mind blowing!

Nothing can beat this book; it’s the strongest book in history. Sally Gardner is an amazing writer and the illustrator is an amazing drawer! Can you beat the strongest girl in the world? Even the strongest, muscly and bravest man in the world can’t beat Josie Jenkins!

Everyone wants to be Josie or do they?

This Marcellus story is full of tricks, jokes and laughter. We really recommend this book, good luck reading!

Out Of This World Poetry!

We have always known that the children in St. George's Class were out of this world when it came to poetry, but now it has been proven! Some poems written by children in our class have been selected to be published in a book of poetry. Very well done if your poem was chosen!

Information Books

Last week we learned how to research and write information books. We have added to our book corner with 5 excellent books about the Ancient Greeks and 5 fascinating guides to the Angry Birds.

We used our ICT skills to create the front and back covers for the books. You can see these below, for the full books you'll have to visit our classroom and come to see the Angry Birds display...

When I first read it, the beginning was quite sad but then it got happier. Your emotions go up and down through the book. It is a little demanding. It is interesting and magical.

Anne of Green Gables, by L.M. Montgomery

My favourite chapter is when Anne (who is an orphan) gets adopted. She dyes her hair and it goes wrong and goes green! She wanted to go on a picnic, because there was ice cream there and she had never tried it before. But she was not allowed to go because she dyed her hair green!
Anne can be a bit naughty. You should read it because it's really funny.  There are other books about the same character. There are also films, but you should read the books first because they are better than the films.
